***MASSENA 11TH HOUR SHIRAZ 12
Massena Winery is a renowned boutique winery located in the Barossa Valley region of Australia. With a commitment to producing high-quality wines,it has gained a reputation for its exceptional craftsmanship and unique blends. The winery was established in 1999 by winemakers Dan Standish and Jaysen Collins, who share a passion for creating wines that showcase the true character of the Barossa Valley’s vineyards.
Massena Winery focuses on sourcing grapes from old vineyards, some of which are over 100 years old, resulting in wines that reflect the region’s rich viticultural heritage. They specialize in crafting Rhône-style wines, including Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre), and other traditional varieties. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their distinct flavors and personalities.
This Shiraz is crafted from 60-year old vines in Greenock sub district of the Barossa Valley. The old vines were to be uprooted by the growers due to the lack of yields and the fact that other companies were reluctant to pay for those excellent, yet low yielding vines. After repeated requests by Jaysen and Dan, the vineyard was ‘saved’ at the eleventh hour resulting in this excellent wine as well as the very appropriate name.
