The Château d’Avize is one of the (too many) Rares Châteaux with a single vineyard in Champagne. It consists of a sober building with no walls or keep, surrounded by its 2.13 hectares of Chardonnay vines, located as its name suggests at Avize, Grand Cru from Côte des blancs. Maison Leclerc Briant is not the owner, but its team biodynamically manages this parcel and makes the wines.
The wines are aged for the most part (80%) in oak barrels, in order to patinate their fruity character and give them their vanilla and spicy aromas, the result of micro-oxygenation. In order to maintain this balance, Réserver, after disgorging, will receive only a low dosage (2g/L).

The 2012 Chateau d’Avize Blanc de Blancs, 100% Chardonnay with dosage of 2 g/l, was disgorged in June 2022. It swans out of the glass with showy notions of honeysuckle, almond croissant, apple tart, and beeswax, plus suggestions of sea spray and shaved ginger. The palate is delicately styled and bone dry, with fantastic tension and densely intertwined chalk and spice layers, finishing wonderfully minerally.
